Help get kids on bikes this season with Wonder Wheels!
Wonder Wheels captures the simple, profound joy of riding a bike. Whether you’re five or 85, there’s nothing like feeling your feet on the pedals and the wind on your face. Bikes represent freedom. Independence. Movement and adventure, big or small. The world looks different from a bicycle – and Wonder Wheels ensures that everyone can experience the thrill of the ride.
James Wilson, founder and owner of Obsession: Bikes, launched Bikes for Tykes in 2006. Like many kids, James received his first bike as a beloved hand-me-down – and that simple gift changed his life.
James and the Obsession team wanted to ensure that every kid gets to experience the world on two wheels. When donors give a new or pre-loved bike, the team fixes it up and makes sure it’s safe and road-ready. Then, they work with their friends at Family Services of the North Shore to match each bike with families in need.
To date, over 3,400 kids have received a bike through this grassroots program. With about 200 pre-loved bikes going to children and families annually through our Christmas Bureau program.
We’re thrilled with what we’ve accomplished together. And now, 18 years later, we’re making a few changes… starting with a new name: Wonder Wheels. We wanted to capture the joy, freedom, and wonder of riding a bike – whether it’s your first time on two wheels or you’ve been riding for decades. That thrill never wears off. There’s nothing quite like it.
It’s a great time to look back on what we’ve done – and also to look ahead. The need in our North Shore community has never been greater. We’re asking our friends and neighbours to support the Wonder Wheels program, especially as the holiday season approaches. Give the gift of joy, movement, and freedom on two wheels.
