Bubbles & Brunch

We are excited to announce that the inaugural Bubbles & Brunch event, on May 9 at Capilano Golf and Country Club, is sold out!

Bubbles & Brunch was created by a group of community-minded women from the North Shore who refuse to let women impacted by abuse and violence struggle alone. This new event raises money so that women can receive long term counselling support without sitting on a wait list for months. It also ensures that their children receive affordable counselling too.

We are excited to come together and enjoy some bubbles, a delicious brunch, and inspiring stories about woman and children who have made it through and on to a healthier life because of the support they received from Family Services of the North Shore. Starting at 11:00AM and hosted by Vancouver’s ‘Man About Town’ Fred Lee, Bubbles & Brunch promises to be a lively and fun event that brings together people from our vibrant North Shore community.

Our goal for Bubbles & Brunch is to raise $200,000 which will allow us to expand our services for women and children who have experienced violence and abuse. If you would like to help us reach our goal by making a donation, please click here.

Can you imagine feeling trapped in a relationship and feeling like there was no way out? Unable to take the next step for fear of escalating violence, and with the belief that this was all your fault. What if your child, suffering from anxiety, needed a counsellor who specialized in trauma and you couldn’t afford it?

This is the reality for hundreds of women and children on the North Shore.

The impact of abuse on children can last a lifetime if they are left to deal with it alone.

A son or daughter watching their father verbally or physically abuse their mother experiences fear, anger, and helplessness. These children often appear anxious or aggressive because they don’t know how to talk about what they have seen. Children’s experiences matter deeply. When parents and children get help when the worst is happening, they can heal and go on to live amazing lives.

We need to prevent the abuse from happening in the first place.

This is a shift that will take generations because it’s hard to change abusive behaviours. It’s also important to remember that men who are abusive were not born this way. They were shaped by a society that endorses men’s use of violence to deal with feelings and many of them had fathers who were abusive to their mothers.

The support from Bubbles & Brunch will not only help women and children who are the victims of abuse, it will also create opportunities for men to be held accountable and heal. This is a critical part of our work to keep children safe in their families.

A community of like-minded people who believe that everyone should have the opportunity to live a full and meaningful life is a powerful one.
